Fall Is the Best Time to Remodel in Colorado Springs — Here's Why Most Homeowners Miss It

September 30, 2026

Every September, I watch the same thing happen. Summer wraps up, the kids go back to school, life settles into a rhythm — and somewhere in there, people start noticing things. The bathroom that always felt a little tired. The floors that have taken too many winters of boots and salt and dog paws. The kitchen that works fine, but only if you don't look too hard.

Fall is when homeowners start thinking seriously about their spaces again. And honestly, it's the best time of year to do something about it.

Colorado Winters Don't Announce Themselves

If you've lived in Colorado Springs for any length of time, you know how fast the weather can turn. One week you're grilling in a t-shirt, and a few weeks later you're scraping ice at seven in the morning wondering when that happened. That window between the heat of summer and the first hard freeze is shorter than it feels — and it matters for home projects.

Most remodels involve at least some disruption to daily life. Deliveries, tradespeople coming and going, doors open while materials get moved in. That's manageable in October. In January, it's a different story. Scheduling gets tighter, material lead times stretch, and everyone's trying to squeeze in the last jobs before the holidays.

Starting now — in late September or early October — means you're ahead of all of that.

The Projects That Make the Most Sense This Time of Year

Some work is truly season-neutral. A bathroom remodel, a flooring replacement, basement finishing — these happen indoors, so the weather outside doesn't affect them much one way or another. But there are a few reasons fall is particularly smart timing.

Flooring. Hardwood and LVP installations require the material to acclimate to your home's humidity levels before it goes down. Fall in Colorado is typically drier than summer, which means your floors will behave closer to how they'll perform all winter long. You get a truer installation when the conditions match the season ahead.

Bathrooms and kitchens. These projects take anywhere from one to three weeks, and they tend to be the rooms people want to feel good about heading into the holiday season. There's something about having family come through a finished, upgraded space that makes the project feel worth it in a way that's hard to put into words. If you're targeting Thanksgiving or Christmas, October is the time to get on a contractor's schedule.

Basements. Fall is when Coloradans start thinking about their basement again — whether that's an extra bedroom, a home office, a rec room for the family. The timing works well because basement finishing is entirely interior work, and getting it done before the ground freezes means one less logistical hurdle.

Getting on a Schedule Before Everyone Else Tries To

Here's the honest truth about fall scheduling: the good contractors get booked up fast. Not because we're trying to manufacture urgency, but because the window is genuinely short. From now through mid-November is prime renovation season. After that, you're looking at December — which most homeowners rightly want to leave alone — and then the post-holiday rush that starts every January.

If you've had a project in the back of your mind, fall is the time to have the conversation. Not to commit to anything you're not ready for, but to walk through what you're thinking, get a realistic picture of scope and cost, and understand your options.

I've been doing this work in Colorado Springs for over 15 years, and the clients who get the results they're happiest with are almost always the ones who started the conversation early. Not because they were in a rush, but because they gave themselves room to make good decisions.

What an Initial Conversation Actually Looks Like

Coming to me with a vague idea is completely fine. Most people don't know exactly what they want when they first reach out — they know they want something different, and they need help figuring out what that looks like and what it costs.

We'll walk the space together, talk through what's working and what isn't, and I'll give you a clear picture of what's realistic with your budget. No pressure, no pitch. If it makes sense to move forward, we'll talk about timing. If you're not ready, you'll at least leave knowing what the project would actually take.

Let's Talk This Fall

If you've been sitting on a project — a bathroom that needs a real overhaul, floors that have seen better days, a basement that's just storage right now — fall is the window to get it done before the year closes out.

Reach out anytime. I'm happy to come take a look, answer questions, or just talk through what might be possible for your home.
